MICR Encoder
Announcing the MICR
Encoder
Phoenix Phive is pleased to
offer you the MICR Encoder. Used with Payroll and Industrial
Strength Payroll, this software will revolutionize your payroll check
processing.
What is MICR encoding?
MICR stands for Magnetic
Ink Character Recognition. Banks use MICR technology to read the numbers and
symbols on the bottom of checks. These numbers and symbols consist of a 6-digit
Check Number, the Routing and Transit Number and the Account Number. These
numbers and symbols must use the special E-13B MICR font required by the
American National Standards Institute X9B standards for automated check
processing.
The special magnetic ink,
combined with the unique font, enables banks and clearing houses to accurately
process checks at very high speeds.
Now, with the MICR
Encoder, you can print these numbers and symbols, along with the rest of
your check information, on plain, perforated check stock. Moreover, you do all
of this in just one pass through your laser printer!

Save time and money with
the MICR Encoder
Printing all your check
information yourself saves you time and money. Here’s how¼
Since the MICR Encoder
uses plain, perforated check stock, you no longer need to buy preprinted checks.
Instead, you purchase one check stock for all your needs. This check stock is
significantly less costly than preprinted checks. In fact, your savings can be
quite substantial, especially when you compare buying plain check stock to
buying small quantities of preprinted checks.
Since you use only one
check stock for all your clients, the MICR Encoder eliminates the need to
switch checks in your printer. It also means that you only need to store and
order one check.

The MICR Encoder is
convenient
However, the MICR
Encoder does more than save you time and money. It is a tremendous
convenience. For example, if you find a new client, you can start their payroll
right away. If you lose a client or change banks, there are no checks to
destroy. You can service small clients as efficiently as you service large
companies. Your productivity improves enormously.
If you like to keep copies
of your checks, the MICR Encoder will automatically print up to
ninety-nine non-negotiable copies for you.

The
MICR Encoder is precise
The standards require MICR
encoding to be placed exactly so the machines can read the checks reliably. The
MICR Encoder comes with a template that allows you to verify the correct
positioning of the MICR line. It also contains routines that permit adjustment
of the MICR line with 1/300" precision.

Easy to use
Moreover, the MICR
Encoder is really easy to install and use. Professional-looking checks will
be yours in minutes.

Digitized logos and signatures
If you look at the sample
check, you will see that it contains a logo and signature.
As an optional, extra-cost
service, you can have your logo and/or signature scanned onto a disk to be used
with the MICR Encoder.
Digitized logos make your
checks look more professional. Digitized signatures are real time-savers. Just
think how many hours you spend signing checks.
For peace of mind, extra
security is provided to prevent unauthorized use and copying of your digitized
logo and signature. The signature is encrypted.
To have your logo and/or
signature digitized, please call to request our MICR Scanning Order Form.

What you need to use the MICR Encoder
To use the MICR Encoder
you need Payroll, version 4 or Industrial Strength Payroll,
version 3 or later
and a Hewlett-Packard
compatible laser printer for which MICR toner is available.
Most important, you need
special magnetically chargeable (MICR) toner to print the numbers and symbols on
the bottom of your checks. A regular toner will not work. This special magnetic
toner allows the bank to read your information accurately.
We can supply you with
toner cartridges for Hewlett-Packard printers. We can also provide you with
cartridges for many other printers such as Lexmark.
You also need 8½" x 11"
MICR check stock that can be purchased from us.
